Performance clothing is an investment. With the right care, your technical sportswear can keep its stretch, shape and moisture management for much longer.
Always Read the Care Label
Every garment has specific instructions. Following them is the simplest way to protect the fabric and any special finishes.
Wash Soon After Training
Sweat and bacteria left in damp clothes can lead to stubborn odor. Hang sweaty items to dry if you cannot wash them right away, rather than leaving them in a gym bag.
Use Cool Water and Gentle Cycles
Hot water and aggressive spinning can wear down elastic fibers and damage prints. Wash in cold or lukewarm water on a gentle cycle, and turn garments inside out to protect outer surfaces.
Choose the Right Detergent
- Use a mild liquid detergent, ideally one designed for sportswear.
- Avoid fabric softener, which can coat fibers and reduce wicking ability.
- Skip bleach unless the care label says it is safe.
Tackle Odor Naturally
If garments hold onto smells, a pre-soak in water mixed with a splash of white vinegar can help. Rinse well and wash as usual.
Dry with Care
Air drying is gentlest. If you use a dryer, choose the lowest heat setting or a no-heat option. High heat can shrink fabrics and weaken elastic.
Protect Zips and Hook-and-Loop Closures
Close zips and fasten Velcro before washing to prevent snagging on other items. Washing delicate pieces in a mesh bag adds extra protection.
Store Properly
Keep clothes clean and fully dry before putting them away. Fold or hang them loosely so the fabric can recover its shape.
